A workshop that demonstrates a cost-effective technology for carbon storage
Date and Time: 20 May 2025 (10:00am)
Location: Sydney
Cement manufacture is responsible for approximately 5 million tonnes of carbon emissions in Australia, yet it is trailing behind other industries in the adoption of carbon capture technologies. This delay is partly due to a lack of value-adding applications for the captured carbon to offset the associated costs.
This workshop, supported by MECLA and SmartCrete CRC and funded partly by a commonwealth grant, will showcase the findings of a collaborative project involving Boral, UTS and UNSW, aimed at developing a cost-effective technology for carbon storage. This innovative technology captures carbon dioxide through the recarbonation of recycled concrete aggregates, which are subsequently used to partially replace natural aggregates in concrete.
