Sustainable and Durable Mortar for Impressed Current Cathodic Protection Systems
Date and Time: 17 November 2026 (12:30pm)
Location: Online, Teams
Steel reinforced concrete bridges, especially those near the ocean, are fitted with impressed current cathodic protection systems to defend against corrosion. These systems are themselves protected by mortar which tends to acidify quickly and needs to be repaired or replaced every 5 – 15 years. This can cost infrastructure owners millions, while the mortar used in repairs can limit conductivity, reducing the effectiveness of the protection systems.
Join us on 17 November 2026 @ 12:30pm to learn about a SmartCrete CRC project developing an improved mortar for impressed current cathodic protection systems. Event Chair Gavin Chadbourn (Optima Asset) chats with project leads Georgius Adam (FOSROC), Hamid Fatemi (TfNSW) and Ali Hadigheh (University of Sydney) about their work developing mortar from recycled and sustainable materials to extend the service life of bridges, improve public safety, and create new market opportunities.
The free online session includes a series of brief presentations followed by a Q&A, giving you the chance to share knowledge, ask questions and join the conversation at the forefront of concrete innovation.
