The carbonation of concrete has traditionally been considered undesirable, due to its potential to increase the risk of concrete reinforcement corrosion. These days, the fact that concrete absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere, and thus significantly reduces the whole-life carbon footprint of the structures for which it was used, is key to developing a sustainable construction industry.
