Projects
It has been shown to have superior mechanical properties and durability compared to traditional concrete while reducing the carbon-intensive cement factor. Uptake of high-performance graphene concrete would offer asset owners a way of building stronger longer-lasting infrastructure with less concrete. But high-performance graphene concrete is yet to be widely adopted by industry who could benefit from its cost-efficiency and sustainability.
This project will facilitate a greater uptake of high-performance graphene concrete for building and repairing bridges. Researchers from Macquarie University will begin by reviewing existing codes and research relevant to high performance graphene concrete bridges. They will then fill essential gaps in this research by gathering data through experiments on graphene concrete mixes and by creating finite element modelling analysis to better understand bridge behaviour. Researchers will then develop and propose technical and specification guidelines that may be included, or referred to, in industry specifications and codes.
