Low carbon concrete is a promising decarbonisation lever for Australia’s built environment, offering considerable reductions in the sector’s upfront CO2 footprint. Although safe low-carbon solutions already exist, they require broader market acceptance. Current performance testing protocols – tailored to Ordinary Portland Cement – may hinder their adoption. They also need to be adapted and improved to ensure new low carbon concrete meets Australia’s performance requirements and industry standards.
What steps are necessary to remove these barriers and create a level testing field for low carbon cement and concrete solutions?
