Improving Durability of Precast Culverts in Infrastructure

In Western Australia alone, the extensive 90,000 km road network has numerous precast concrete culvert crossings—a considerable portion of which fail to meet their intended design life. However, the exact reason for this premature deterioration remains unknown.
Join us on 18 August 2026 @ 12:30pm to learn about a collaborative research project to determine the causes of premature deterioration in these precast units. Chair Gavin Chadbourn (Optima Asset) chats with project leads Erica Smith (BG&E) and Prabir Sarker (Curtin University) about their work conducting analytical and experimental studies and developing new designs and manufacturing methods to meet future industry needs.
