C&D Waste and Recycled Glass in Sealed and Unsealed Roads
Date and Time: 23 June 2026 (12:30pm)
Location: Online
Australia produces 8.7 Mt of demolition concrete and 1.0 Mt of waste glass each year—and most of it goes to landfill. But what if these waste streams could be turned into recycled materials that improve the performance of our roads?
This event showcases a SmartCrete CRC project investigating the feasibility of using C&D waste and recycled glass in sealed and unsealed roads. To discuss, chair Lauren Howe (Arup) will be joined by industry partner April Hoyles (Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation) and project researchers Sanjay Nimbalkar and Piyush Punetha (UTS).
They will share the project’s business case, scope and research findings around material properties, volumes, blended mixes, traffic load effects and more. After the presentations, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions or challenge ideas in this area of concrete innovation.
