Thermally Self-Regulating Concrete for Energy Efficient Buildings
Date and Time: 15 September 2026 (12:30pm)
Location: MS Teams
As Australian homes need to become more energy efficient to support national emissions reduction targets, reducing waste sent to landfill is also essential to conserve resources and protect the environment.
To address this, a SmartCrete CRC research collaboration is using waste material to develop concrete building blocks that can help improve the energy efficiency of homes.
Join us on 15th September 2026 to hear from Lloyd Gainey (Brickworks), Bijan Samali and Md Abdul Alim (Western Sydney University) about their project developing phase change material from organic and construction waste to create thermally self-regulating concrete building blocks and roof tiles.
Learn how the project is testing these blocks and tiles in a model home, assessing the home’s performance using NatHERS and BASIX, and conducting a lifecycle cost analysis.
The presentations will be followed by a live Q&A during which you can ask questions, share knowledge and join the conversation.
