Clinker Chat: The Perfect Sand

3 November 2023

Sand engineered specifically for use in concrete will be more economical and desirable in the future as the construction industry heads towards net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and natural sand resources get harder to come by.

Back in October 2023, we visited one of Kayasand’s autonomous sand manufacturing plants, co-located at Holcim Australia’s Quarry, in Albion Park (NSW). Bram Smith, CEO, and Frank Grech, National Sales Manager, at Kayasand took us on a tour behind the scenes to explain how their technology produces the ideal concrete sand and what makes Kayasand’s approach different.

SmartCrete CEO Clare Tubolets used the opportunity to chat to Bram and Frank about the “Ins and Outs” of manufacturing the perfect sand and the potential it holds to save concrete producers 6,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Clinker Chat features insightful conversations with industry and research leaders about innovative pathways to improve the competitiveness and productivity of Australia’s concrete ecosystem.
