Media Coverage: Boral Completes Product Development of Australian‑First Calcined Clay Concrete

17 February 2026

Coverage from Leading Industry Outlets Highlights a Major Innovation in Low‑Carbon Concrete

SmartCrete CRC participant Boral has been featured across major industry outlets following the completion of product development for a next‑generation low‑carbon calcined clay concrete.

In an Australian first, the new product uses Australian calcined clay as supplementary cementitious material, supporting the sector’s decarbonisation efforts.

This milestone follows extensive laboratory testing and field trials, with a test slab made from calcined clay recycled from soil excavated on site.

Technical feasibility work was conducted in collaboration with the University of Technology Sydney, Transport for NSW, and Calix as part of a SmartCrete CRC project, Applications of Calcined Clay in  Lower-Carbon Concrete.

This coverage reflects industry and media interest in innovations that improve sustainability in construction materials and support decarbonisation goals across infrastructure sectors.
