Are you an early-to-mid career professional in the concrete industry?

SmartCrete CRC, in collaboration with the Concrete Institute of Australia’s NEXGen team, is excited to launch the NEXGen Mentorship Program—a peer-led initiative designed to support higher degree by research students (master degree or PhD) in bridging the gap between academia and industry.

We are seeking passionate and committed members of the CIA’s NEXGen community or beyond to become mentors in this six-month program. This new program takes a fresh approach to mentorship by embracing a peer-to-peer model. With ongoing support from SmartCrete CRC, both mentors and mentees will benefit from structured guidance, resources, and a collaborative environment—ensuring meaningful learning and professional growth on both sides of the relationship.

About the Program

The NEXGen Mentorship Program connects HDR students with mentors who are actively shaping the future of Australia’s concrete and construction sector. The focus is on peer-to-peer learning, real-world exposure, and building confidence to transition successfully from research environments into industry.

What’s involved?
  • A six-month commitment (June–November 2025)
  • Monthly one-on-one mentoring sessions (approx. 1 hour/month)
  • Sharing your career journey, industry experience, and advice
  • Helping mentees understand industry expectations and pathways

Why get involved?

  • Enhance your leadership and communication skills
  • Play a meaningful role in developing the next generation of concrete professionals
  • Strengthen ties between industry and research
  • Join a national network of passionate peers committed to shaping the future of our sector
Who can apply?

We welcome expressions of interest from early-to-mid career professionals across all areas of the concrete industry. Whether your background is in engineering, design, sustainability, manufacturing, or construction—you have valuable insights to share.

To apply, complete the short expression of interest form by the deadline.
